The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, met today in Sarajevo with the director of the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nataša Grubeša, and the director of the Institute of Health Insurance and Reinsurance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vlatka Martinović. The aim of the meeting is to strengthen cooperation and establish a timely exchange of information regarding the availability of medicines in the country.

The Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina regularly monitors the supply of medicines, and domestic manufacturers of medicines and holders of permits for foreign medicine manufacturers are obliged to inform the Agency about any shortages, along with accompanying information about the reasons, duration of the shortage, and the expected date of the medicine's re-appearance on the market.

The Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina has expressed its willingness to actively follow the guidelines of the European Union and will accept and implement all recommendations aimed at preventing medicine shortages. This is particularly significant because in the EU the shortage of medicines creates serious challenges in many countries. Therefore, the EU is working on specific policies to enable the transition from a reactive to a proactive approach in managing this critical resource.

The director of the Institute of Health Insurance and Reinsurance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vlatka Martinović, advocated for the conclusion of international social insurance agreements with European countries, especially those with which succession agreements from the former Yugoslavia are in place but cannot be consistently applied.

Minister Dubravka Bošnjak and representatives of the Agency for Medicines and the Institute of Health Insurance and Reinsurance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina have once again demonstrated their dedication to preserving the health of citizens and ensuring access to medicines that are of vital importance to all patients.
