Organized by the UNESCO office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a conference dedicated to launching the new phase of the project 'Building Trust in Media in Southeast Europe: Supporting Journalism as a Public Good' was held. Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Biljana Čamur Veselinović, attended the conference.

During the event, she emphasized that the project 'Building Trust in Media in Southeast Europe' is of exceptional importance for strengthening media freedom, supporting the journalism profession, and addressing the challenges of disinformation. Considering the omnipresence of disinformation in contemporary society, she highlighted the importance of working to strengthen the integrity of journalism and increase public trust in media sources.

She highlighted media literacy as a key component for empowering social participation competencies and developing a democratic culture. Therefore, it is particularly significant to integrate media and information literacy into formal education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Biljana Čamur Veselinović mentioned that the Ministry of Civil Affairs recognizes progress in the field of media and information literacy in the higher education system in BiH, emphasizing that the subject is taught at five public universities. She also emphasized the importance of adopting the Strategy for the Development of Media and Information Literacy in the Sarajevo Canton, as well as the introduction of the subject 'Digital World' in elementary schools in the Republika Srpska.

She praised the Media and Information Literacy Guide prepared within the framework of Phase I of the project and highlighted how this education enables young people to analyse information with a critical approach, evaluating its accuracy, relevance, and credibility, while simultaneously reducing the risk of spreading false information.

Finally, Čamur Veselinović expressed satisfaction with the continuation of the project and collaboration, thanking the European Union and UNESCO for their support.
