Biljana Čamur Veselinović, the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, participated in the ceremonial promotion of a humanitarian project dedicated to aiding landmine and other explosive device survivors, held in Mostar. The project, which was implemented from May to July 2023, was carried out by the Mine Detection Dog Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina (MDDC), with financial support from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The project aimed to help landmine victims from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. High-quality upper and lower limb prostheses were donated to the victims. Over the past three months, the project was successfully implemented in Mostar, Konjic, Trebinje, Gacko, and Nevesinje. In these cities, 19 landmine victims underwent the process of prosthesis creation, significantly improving their quality of life.

The Secretary of the Ministry, Biljana Čamur Veselinović, expressed gratitude to Germany for its support, both in the implementation of this project and in assisting the demining process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as other projects under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

The project promotion was attended by Bernhard Abels, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, accompanied by the military attaché and other representatives of the German embassy. Project beneficiaries from the Herzegovina region were also in attendance.

Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bernhard Abels, emphasized Germany's dedication to the demining process and assisting landmine victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He highlighted Germany's long-standing support for landmine victims and active participation in demining projects.

This year, Germany allocated nearly 100,000 euros for the production of high-quality prostheses and additional components tailored to the needs of each individual involved in the project.

In the first phase of the project, Germany assisted 55 landmine victims from various cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the second phase, 19 victims from Sarajevo and Zenica were assisted. The third phase covered Herzegovina, including Trebinje and surrounding cities. The next phase, for which a memorandum of understanding was signed at this ceremony, will encompass the Bratunac, Srebrenica, Zvornik, and Brčko regions, further expanding the scope of this humanitarian project.
