The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, held talks with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Thomas Fitschen, and the Military Attaché, Franz-Josef Nolte, regarding the demining of mine suspected areas in BiH, as well as the continuation of strengthening cooperation with international partners.

In the discussion, both sides affirmed their full commitment to the demining process and cooperation to achieve the fundamental goal of a "Mine Free BiH."

Ambassador Fitschen congratulated the successful completion of the obligation to remove cluster munitions by 1 September 2023, which was Bosnia and Herzegovina's commitment in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines, emphasizing the significant role of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH.

The Minister announced the initiation of the procedure for adopting a new Demining Law, as the current demining activities are being carried out under a law enacted more than 20 years ago. The new law will enhance demining processes through clearer regulations, greater transparency, and better coordination among relevant institutions.

Highlighting the importance of the role of international partners in demining, as well as the fact that only one meeting of the Donor Committee has been held in the past 5 years, Minister Bošnjak reminded that the next meeting of the Donor Committee is planned by the end of the year.

Minister Bošnjak expressed gratitude to Germany for the ongoing support provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina in all areas and emphasized the importance of a continuing collaboration between the two countries.
