In the ongoing efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina to intensify regional cooperation and facilitate the mobility of professionals, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, upon the proposal of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has decided to adopt the Draft basis for the conclusion of an Agreement on the recognition of professional qualifications of nurses, veterinary surgeons, pharmacists, and midwives in the Central European Free Trade Agreement context. This agreement will be further forwarded to the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the procedure, and signing is planned at the Berlin Process Summit in Tirana on 16 October 2023.

The agreement envisages the automatic recognition of professional qualifications for selected professions that are in demand in the labour market, creating a favourable environment for the mobility of professionals within the region, strengthening regional cooperation, and providing stimulus for the economic development of the region. Additionally, this agreement enhances the competitiveness of highly skilled professionals in the job market, and its signing should confirm the commitment to further progress and regional integration in the fields of healthcare, veterinary medicine, and pharmacy.

The previously signed Agreement on the recognition of professional qualifications for doctors of medicine, dentists, and architects is nearly identical to the new agreement, together constituting an important prerequisite for mobility and recognition of professional qualifications in all the aforementioned deficient areas.

With these new steps to facilitate professional mobility, Bosnia and Herzegovina firmly reaffirms its dedication to regional cooperation and further strengthening of bonds, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs commits to meeting the requirements in line with European integration.
