The Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, Mr. Adil Osmanovic, talked today in Sarajevo with the Director of the Statistical Office of the European Commission (EUROSTAT), Mr. Peter Everers, and the head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Mr. Lars-Gunnar Vigemark.

They discussed the census of population, households and dwellings, which was conducted in 2013, and concluded that there has been some progress made in overcoming the issues related to the completion of the census and releasing the results (Director and Deputy Director of the BiH Statistics Agency are appointed), but it is also necessary to make an extra effort to initiate the final release of the census results in accordance with the 2013 Law on Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Minister Adil Osmanovic informed Mr. Peter Everers and Mr. Lars-Gunnar Vigemark that data processing is currently delayed due to disagreements of statistical institutions over methodological issues, which may jeopardize the entire census operation. He said that the unified data processing program, developed in accordance with the 2013 Law on Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in Bosnia and Herzegovina and aligned with the European standards, which would be accepted by the BiH Statistics Agency, the FBiH Statistics Institute and the RS Institute of Statistics, could unlock the current impasse in the direction of the release of the final census results.

It was concluded at the meeting that the census issue should be resolved by experts, and not by politicians, and in this sense it should be addressed as a priority in accordance with the 2013 Law on Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the IMO team recommendations.

The census of population, households and dwellings in BiH was conducted between 1 and 15 October 2013, and official results have not been released to date. Until now, only preliminary results of the total number of BiH population are released, which showed that 3,791,662 people in BiH are counted, of which 2,371,603 in FBiH, 1,326,991 in RS and 93,028 in Brcko District of BiH.
