Minister Adil Osmanović at the 39th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO in Paris - Bosnia and Herzegovina Seeks Membership in the World Heritage Committee

Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adil Osmanović participates in the work of the 39th General Assembly of UNESCO in Paris, where in addressing the participants he expressed his support to the UNESCO Program for the following period and emphasized the commitment of Bosnia and Herzegovina to actively cooperate with UNESCO towards achieving set goals as well as Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030.

"Bosnia and Herzegovina is undergoing through very significant reforms also related to areas that are covered by UNESCO. We are committed to building a modern education system oriented towards the needs of the labor market in a way that will contribute to further economic development. In the field of science, we dedicate our attention to finding answers to key issues concerning environmental protection, water conservation and other natural resources. Through joint work and open access to science, it is possible to find answers to global issues and challenges, and therefore we strongly support initiatives and projects that contribute to it and I appreciate the necessary higher allocations for the field of science, "said Minister Osmanović, and specially emphasized dedication of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of culture.

"We have ratified all UNESCO conventions and we are continuously working on their implementation," said Minister Osmanović .

            Minister of Civil Affairs emphasized the role that sport has in the development of a healthy society. As key activities in this field, he highlighted the work on promoting sporting values, preventing violence in sports fields and preventing doping in sport.

Minister Osmanović also talked about the importance of regional cooperation, singling out the example of cooperation with Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro on the inscribing stećci on the World Heritage List. He reminded that Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of the World Coalition of Countries for the Protection and Preservation of World Cultural Heritage in Danger and it is continuously working on the implementation of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

The Minister of Civil Affairs specially pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina applied for membership of the World Heritage Committee.

"I want to assure you that Bosnia and Herzegovina highly appreciates the role and mandate of the World Heritage Committee. Bosnia and Herzegovina desires to contribute to the further strengthening mechanisms for protection of cultural and natural assets through the work in the Committee. I sincerely hope that this will be recognized and that we will have the necessary support in choosing the new members of the Committee, "said Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adil Osmanović.
