Return of citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Former BiH citizens can return their citizenship in accordance with Article 14 of the Law on Citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is necessary that, before submitting the application, they have completed residence in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for a minimum of one year.
The request is submitted to the competent entity body, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, through the cantonal Ministry of the Interior or the Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government of the Republika Srpska through the local self-government body, depending on the area in which the residence is reported, with the completion of evidence from Article 9 of the Law on Citizenship, except for paragraph (1) point. a) and b).
If the former citizen acquired the citizenship of a country with which Bosnia and Herzegovina does not have an agreement on dual citizenship, the procedure requires the renunciation of the acquired citizenship. Bosnia and Herzegovina currently has concluded agreements with the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Sweden.
