The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, held a meeting with the Minister of Health of the Republic of North Macedonia, Sašo Klekovski, focusing on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the field of healthcare, with particular emphasis on strengthening ties between healthcare institutions, exchanging medical knowledge and experience, and developing cooperation in highly specialized medical procedures.
During the meeting, both sides confirmed their interest in intensifying bilateral cooperation and making more effective use of the existing institutional framework, including the Agreement between the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on Cooperation in the Field of Health and Medical Sciences, signed in 2012.
Particular attention was devoted to opportunities for establishing links between hospitals and clinical centres in Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia. Such cooperation could include the exchange of professional knowledge and clinical experience, professional training for physicians and other healthcare professionals, networking of specialized medical teams, and consideration of opportunities for joint activities in complex treatment procedures.
Stem cell transplantation was also identified as a potential area of cooperation, including the possibility of connecting interested healthcare institutions in the two countries.
Minister Bošnjak emphasized the importance of international cooperation in strengthening healthcare capacities, particularly in highly specialized fields of medicine that require continuous investment in professional staff, knowledge and technology.
The discussions also highlighted the need for more concrete implementation of the existing bilateral agreement through direct cooperation between healthcare institutions and professionals, as well as the identification of areas of mutual interest.
Within the scope of its coordinating responsibilities, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to support the development of international health cooperation and the establishment of links between relevant institutions, with the aim of creating new opportunities for the professional development of healthcare workers and improving healthcare services for patients.
